Could a driveshaft for a 1947 Willy’s sedan be made from a PTO driveshaft.?

I have a 1947 Willy’s jeep with no drive shafts or u joints. The U-joints look to be around the same size as those used on a big trucks pto. SInce the sizes are about the same size I was wondering if using pto u joints and drive shafts could work.

Your local driveshaft shop is the only one qualified to build you a driveshaft. Giving them old junk parts wont get you a discount.

You may not use any u-joints not designed for the vehicle.

Driveshaft is an area few mechanics, even expert gearheads will mess with. You d-shaft go pop, and you kill the guy and his kids in the car next to you when your truck flips or veers as the shaft flaps and slaps, especially on an insanely short wheelbase vehicle such as that one.

Don’t mess with it man.

It’ll cost you $200 to $500, probably on the higher side as you don’t have some of the right parts to do it right.

Parts are readily available for that vehicle too. If you haven’t done any crazy powertrain swaps, you can buy a known good part.

Willys didn’t make sedans in 1947, only Jeeps. Willys stopped making sedans in 1942 and started making sedans again in 1952.
