1968 Jeepster Commando 4X4
This is back in the days when Jeep was totally associated with four wheel drive! Nice little vehicle, and
I believe the early Jeepsters were really the start of the sport ute craze. This a more practical than the Jeep for hauling people and things around…a nice addition to a collection! This one has a v6…probably from Buick.

Jack
Not sure…but I do know that Buick V6’s were used for a time in Jeeps..could be in this one. Thanks!

Are you sure it’s a …
Are you sure it’s a V6 engine or a straight 6? Most Jeeps came standard with a straight 6 engine, or, by the 70s, a V8 engine as an option.

I totally agree. …
I totally agree. Sure, it would cost money, nothing is free, or even cheap. But at least (we would hope) the money would go to American workers, instead of foreign workers.

I think that should …
Jack
I think that should be the goal…an American car made by American workers, here in the U.S….we have given away far too many industries and factories and their good paying jobs. Thanks!

I’ve never owned a Jeep of any kind, but still, I would love to see some American car made here in North America (preferrably the Untited States, but even Canada would be acceptable).

I know! I think …
Jack
I know! I think they will keep their hands off the Jeep itself…it sells well, and they would only make fans mad if they tampered. I hope the North American car industry resurrects itself so that it can stand on its own….I’m more hopeful now than I was 6 months ago! Thanks!

Now they’re bought …
Now they’re bought by Fiat? The last time, they were bought by Daimler Benz. Seems par for the course. Who’s next to be bought by a foreign car company?

Jack
Jeep had a spotty history..owned by Kaiser, then part of American Motors…I think Chrysler realized that Jeep had many loyal owners, and that there always seemed to be a market for them…so it made sense to buy them. I don’t think Chrysler has to discount regular Jeeps much to sell them..they wish they could say that about all their cars. It was a wise move on their part. I think some of the Jeep spinoffs that they have now will cease since Fiat is now the boss! Thanks!

Nice looking Jeepster. I love the colour. I’ve always loved such SUVs for their basic utility. Why they were bought by Chrysler is beyond me.

Jack
I appreciate the input…input only an owner would be familiar with! Jeep generally looks like fun times to me! Thanks!

I own a ‘69 Jeepster, and yes, you can ride in the back seat, but only if you are 5 feet or under. The hardtop roof is quite low, and if the rear seat is plush, forget it. Otherwise, this is the most fun vehicle I’ve ever owned..

Yeah…these are …
Jack
Yeah…these are pretty rare these days…the forerunner of a whole class of cars, and they got little credit except that everyone tried to imitate them! Going to Carlisle first weekend of June, if it doesn’t rain, for the all Ford show!

not too many restored jeeps, I like these kind of jeeps (restored)

Hey, Kevin! Yeah …
Jack
Hey, Kevin! Yeah this was before Jeep somehow lost its essence in a blind attempt to sell “Jeeps” regardless of their off-road capability. It shows what the boys in marketing can do when given the okay! Thanks for the comment!

Hey, Brent! I …
Jack
Hey, Brent! I think this is the most utiltarian of all Jeep vehicles of the era. You could actually ride in the back seat!
The Broncos and the Scouts were good too, but this is, of course, a Jeep! Thanks for the comment!

Jack
Hey, Mick! No, I didn’t know that! Assault vehicle! LOL! Thanks for the comment!

i like this …
but give me a 66-77 bronco any day!
but this is one cool ride and is much more like a bronco or scout in interior space!
still very nice and a huge upgrade from the smaller jeep, but then again you could always stretch a old little jeep like they did with the new 4 door one!
and the rims don’t match the look in my books, some steel rims and hub caps would be more my taste on this jeepster!
but still sweet all the same! thanks for sharing jack!
i like this jeepster!

Do you know what modern 4×4 ’soft roaders’ are nicknamed in England? Either the ‘Sainsburys Assault Vehicle’ (Sainburys being a supermarket chain, maybe substitute WalMart) or the Chelsea Tractor!

Jack
Hey, Brian! Yeah, I like this one too, and the engine should be great besides! Having ridden in a regular jeep, I would say that anything has to be better than that! Thanks for the comment!

Have always liked these.Have been next to a few. They’ve usually been red or white. The blue is very nice.A little bigger and nicer than a regular army jeep. That back seat is way better than sitting on the wheel wells.

You’re absolutely …
Jack
You’re absolutely right! A practical offroader..they had their act together in 1968, and oh how they have gotten off-track with their vehicles. Common sense seemed to be in charge at the time…fashion sense seems to be in charge now. The result is a lot of vehicles that put on a style show but can’t do much except carry passengers on main roads, and at inflated prices, used to make a lot of money for the manufacturers!
Thanks for the comment!

Jeepers Creepers …
Jeepers Creepers Look Its A 1968 Jeepster! Awesome color, in mint condition for an affordable price too! And I gurrantee you that gets better mileage then any of these SUV’s and Hummers you see on the road!
The canapy is nice cause that means you can drive it in the weather as well without getting weatherised yourself. And those tires are obviously meant for the offroad experiance. Not like the cars they sell today with POS tires for offroad.
Thanks For Sharing! Peace

Very nice blue. The Buick V6 in these gave it quite good performance. Looks in nice shape and the price seems quite good.
