in my work, when i … in my work, when i get asked for crazy ideas like that, the first thing i consider is how i want it to look and move and sound once its finish , and you absolutely stick with the idea , no compromise.that way i know exactly, first , if its possible, and how much work is gonna be needed, for how much.
Pete, to look good , i’m seeing big 2×4 metal rig, that you gotta hide ,all of it activated by hydrolics ,or air maybe …i hope you charge him a load for that lol
take care Pete!!
one thing you … one thing you should consider, in my opinion, is how much pressure at the bottom, like you said,it would be like 500pound , so when you close it up its gonna bang hard against the firewall, and the whole thing(hood and fender) wabbles a little bit, and think about the movement and the sound its gonna make when in operation , if it takes to long and it makes bbzzzzzzzzz, its not practical…
Pete: I’m a … Pete: I’m a thinker you see. And I’ve been thinkin’. What about a torsion spring, cable, pulley type of operation. Put that ugly actuator somewhere out of the way, tie a cable to it, use pulleys to get the cable where you want it and a torsion spring to offset the weight of the stinkin’ williys fiberglas front end. Eh?
Don’t forget to put … Don’t forget to put a heavy duty 12v connector somewhere, can you imagine the fun of having a flat battery and being unable to open the hood or trunk! Pete I am not criticising, the video is very good and thought provoking, I know you will figure it out! Maybe the owner will see just what a challenge this is and realise why it needs someone determined and smart to “GET ER DONE” best wishes, David
The more I look at … The more I look at this the more difficult it gets, if one actuator moves out of step with the other or if one fails it will do it’s best to twist the front out of shape. Maybe the actuators need current limiting like electric windows have so if they meet too much mechanical resistance they “give up trying”. It is certainly a challenge for you, this won’t be easy!
Pete this looks … Pete this looks like a major challenge, I was kind of wondering whether you could use bowden cables. so you could put the actuator way back under the chassis or similar. I did wonder about the hydraulic rams you get in 1960s Thunderbird trunks. I think they run them from the power steering pump. I know you’ll get it sorted, not an easy job, some huge forces involved! Take it easy, David in miserable cold England.
Im sure you … Im sure you finished it already, but you could push from the corner (like you said not to do in the previous video) but then put a cross member in on the top bit to make it so it opens and closes straight.
Hey JR what is up … Hey JR what is up with that goofy harley hat youve been wearing since you came back on board, You trying for that Samuel L Jackson look or what?
So Pete has JR misplaced any of your tools yet? i notice JR is the only one who uses your and doesnt have a tool box.
hmmm, no chance … hmmm, no chance junior was close with the pull on the hinge idea
i’d be looking at two compact motors working on the hinge / pivot bar with a counter balance to reduce the amount of power needed for the lift

The hood opener has …
The hood opener has to be six times the weight at that low fulcrum point.
